Yep. Just think of a Barbarian as a blood soaked sponge, getting whacked, spraying blood everywhere. That is what a Barbarian does with their 14 to 19 AC. Its amazing how fast their D12 of HP can disappear.Lurker wrote:Treebore wrote:

I've never seen it put that way ..... but I like it! Now I have something to add to the jokes about the Hobs not taking a bath !!!!!

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Achievement is the knowledge that you have studied and worked hard and done the best that is within you. Success is being praised by others. That is nice but not as important or satisfying. Always aim for achievement and forget about success.
Re: Monday Night Kingdoms of Kalamar Game
Wondering if the monk also qualifies as a blood sponge.
Re: Monday Night Kingdoms of Kalamar Game
Most of the Monks that have been, and is currently being played, in my games have never been pure Monks. They have been Monk/Wizard, Monk/Cleric and even Monk/Assassin, so have never been played as a "front line" fighter type. If they were, with their crappy AC, I have no doubt they would be great blood sponges as well.Kayolan wrote:Wondering if the monk also qualifies as a blood sponge.
Now, as you know, from that Slavelord Monk, high level Monks can be pretty kick butt until they bleed out. All by himself he had the whole group of 7 or 8 of you concerned that he might single handedly beat all of you.

Re: Monday Night Kingdoms of Kalamar Game
That was fun. I was worried we would need another barbarian, but he pulled through.
I was looking at my Luck Point rules and for now, I think I'm going to leave them the way they are. Right now, the most a PC can have is 12. That will only go up by one for every level you guys attain. So, even at, say 5th level, the most you could have is 16. That's not too crazy. I may limit it thought to how many points you can use at one time (if I go this way, it would be the maximum of the die (so 8) maybe adding in level). Or I may limit it to what rolls you can use it on (checks and saves, but not attack and damage, or some such combination). But for now, let's leave it alone and see how well it plays.

You were playing your character as you set him up. Good stuff. You are now a "head" shorter than you used to be, but good stuff
Re: Monday Night Kingdoms of Kalamar Game
Thinking about the special properties trigger rule a bit further, Rigon, a few ideas.
If we apply a flat d1000 to the attempt, it will be pretty rare. If this game goes to 10th level, say 4 sessions (8 weeks) per level. Say we have 8 players and each gets 2 attempts per session. My limited arithmetic says that is less than 1000 rolls over the course of the whole campaign. So 1, maybe 2 spontaneous items over the course of the campaign.
Which is not unreasonable at all if you want it to be a very rare event. But, players being players and dungeons being dungeons, players will soon be ditching their "signature" items for newly found weapons and shields as they find better ones
Maybe you want to make the odds more situational. And maybe something that emphasises when characters do something either awesome or cinematic So for my shot there, where I needed a hit to save the fallen barbarian, the chance should be small. But if I was on my horse and chasing a runaway carriage and had to shoot a rope to stop it before it goes off the cliff, and I roll a natural 20, then that would have a much higher chance of activating something special (maybe the CKG advantage of sharpshooter, or something else appropriate)

Re: Monday Night Kingdoms of Kalamar Game
This popped into my head when I was looking an old Dragon article from the late 80s on hero points. What if you earned "hero points" through a combination ways? You could apply these hero points to improving items such as weapons, armor, rings, etc. You basically "spend" the points to bond/awaken/whatever your signature items.
What do you guys think?

Rgr that. It showed me that there is no way I'd ever play a barbarian ... but, you played yours well !
I expect there will be many more times Lupa yells "Noooooooo don't charge yet" and rolls his eyes as he has to wade in to protect your mangled corps until a cleric can put more life back into it.

It's not strictly REQUIRED that a barbarian be completely ignorant of all tactical considerations . Even the BERSERKER knew when to take a few steps back.Lurker wrote:\

Still, I like the idea of not turning back, make sure your death amuses your god, and trust in your blade, even if you found it lying on the floor after breaking or dropping every other weapon you had before.

From the description, I bet we can buff out the crude orcish letters and inscribe something more fitting ... Something like "Barb's blind luck" or "Oh no, duck!"

A little addition to the HR doc:
Magic Stones: the spellcaster can only have 1 group of magic stones (3 stones) in effect per level of the caster at a time. (ex. 3 stones at 1st level until used up. 6 stones at 2nd level until used up, 12 stones at 4th level until used up, etc)

I know. I only used two last night. Even though I was misremembering and thinking I had 4 available. Still, I never used a 4th missile last night, and I replenished my supply when we rested, so right now I don't have Entangle available to me.
