I love this system and was thinking what can be done. Take Conan - take barbarian with supporting class rogue and you are done!
Also Elric of Melnibone or Kain the Mystic Swordsman - ethereal knight with supporting class wizard.
What are your iconic characters you wish to make with these optional rules?

Robin Hood: a few possibilities...

ranger / rogue (because he was a skilled woodsman)
or
fighter / rogue (because he was a master archer)
or
ranger / fighter (not quite as sneaky overall, but he mainly worked in Sherwood)

Cool! Personally, I would have maed Robin Hood archer, supported by rogue

Ah yes, that's a good combination. I had been thinking of the core PH classes. I hadn't considered Adventurers Backpack.

I find I prefer making new classes as I feel the class-and-a-half is 'too easy' for martial characters and far too restrictive on magic-users.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it just does not for me.

But, one I like is barbarian-monk for a real gladiator/pit fighter.
