Wierd World anyone?
Does anyone remember the Weird World comics/mags. I believe there were only three produced. Those comics/mags had a significant impact on my vision of gameplay. How I would like to bring those into gaming.

These are/were some of the best comics fantasy ever written.

Conan and then these, then Elfquest.
The New Dark Horse Conan series is definately very cool.
Elfquest, not so much. I still have the original run of Magazine sized Elfquest in a closet somewhere. I should sell them on ebay or something.
EDIT:
Ok, looked at those old issues once again.
Yeah, not bad. Map of the "weirdworld" is kinda amusing.
The main island is a wolf's head shape.
Monster Isle is a sea monster shape.
Unknown Continent is a skull shape, and pretty nifty lookin' too.
What's up with the 5 star shaped islands?
Although, when I first saw the image of Klarn and the Bright Core on the map I inadvertantly thought about TLG's signature design of the Rings of Brass.
Coincidence?
Ok, read them all again and I found this bit a little saddening; especially as I would have loved to see the "what if" here.
(from Part 1 - pg. 54 actually)
Tolkien discussed seriously? That would have been really nice to see.
I have to wonder since this was shortly after Ralph Bakshi's movie and the release of the Silmarillion what exactly was being discussed.
Yeah, Weirdworld has some great imagery.
Story; not so great, but the paintings of the landscapes truly rock.

"Enter Special Projects Editor Rick Marschall and assistant Raplh Macchio. Rick is looking for material suitable to a proposed fantasy project. Ralph, a fomer fan, suggests Weirdworld as the perfect vehicle. Tolkien is mentioned. Ralph and I push Weirdworld harder. Tolkien is discussed seriously. Rick comes over to the Weirdworld camp. Tolkien is ultimately abandoned."
