For those that are Naming Challenged...

Post by Go0gleplex »

Stumbled across this site this morning and found it rather interesting. For those that are naming challenged or that are just drawing a blank after doing a lot of naming it could be useful. It has a bunch of other name generators beyond just this it seems as well. Gives 10 random names at a time. Enjoy! Link below.

"Rolling dice and killing characters since September 1976."
"Author of Wardogs! and Contributor to Iron Stars and Starmada-Admiralty ed."
"Certified crazy since 2009."

I just reference web sites like this:

http://www.20000-names.com/warrior_name ... ale_02.htm

Or use Gary's Book of Names.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

I have Gary's Book too and use it a lot for characters and NPCs.

But sometimes you need something a bit beyond what it covers. And with it out of print now, not everyone may have it or access thereto. :)

For those that want a certain Greyhawk flair to their naming conventions, this is just the best:

Also, even if you are not Greyhawk inclined these fantasy names work perfectly well.

Probably true, but considering all the "foreign" names on those websites, many of which, if not all, are replicated in Gary's book, I myself have never felt a need for something more made up. Most of us are so limited in our world experiences, foreign names usually fill the bill. Still, more options never hurt, especially if it ends up being something you like using.

Here's a link to my Generic Game Master's Helper (GGMH). It's free (just choose $0) in the pay what you want area. It has a truly generic name generator. No choices on race or monster type. It is capable of generating some really cool names... some really goofy names and some really bad names... because it's truly random.

Check it out... http://www.rpgnow.com/product/18871/The ... och=0&it=1
