The black type on gray background is just too hard for my old eyes to read. Is there a way for a user to change the color of the type to white?
Yes. Just look at the options above the reply window. The B is bold, and one can adjust the font colour via the above pull down window...thus.

I have to say fellas that I do not care for this color scheme. It's nearly as bad as the old ezboard. There just isn't enough contrast between the colors! Take a page from Dragonsfoot's forums please!
I'm going to try to tweak the background of any text window to be a lighter grayor white, that'll happen sometime today.
Hopefully this will help until the final color scheme takes effect in the future.
Steve - yeah, I found it. It could be a bit easier to use, though. This particular theme - Artemis - has several variants that could be easier on the eyes. I might try them to see if there's one that has a little more contrast.

Well they sure give you a lot of choices for the site skin, but that's good . . . something for everyone! 8)

That would be the best option, if possible. Allowing users to select a skin best suited to their preference. I did not like the WinXp one or the blue/grey one.... at least, not at midnight when I was trying to read it.

I like this one better than the last one. Seriously- they don't have an option for users to select their own theme? Anyone?? Anyone??
Ink
Haven't seen such an option. Course that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

Looks like you can now select your own theme if you go to your profile. I chose the "Bionic" theme....but I'll probably switch. The "Legend" one is fun...but the bright, glaring red stings the eyes.

There is an option to allow each member to use his own scheme but I couldn't tell you where to find it as each of these boards puts different options in different places.
I must say I'm not real big on the white as it burns my eyes a bit but that's not nearly as bad as the fact that we're, once again, missing the "mark all forums read" button.
You can change your own skin by going into your profile, and scrolling down. Its after signature and so forth, but should be easy to find (Board Style). I changed mine to Blue Ice or whatever, which I like.

The "Mark all forums read" feature seems to be dependent on which skin you choose. It does seem odd that it wouldn't be available to all skins.

You all shouldn't get particularly attached to any scheme as aztecman will adjust the whole thing to match the new website in the near future.
Steve
This is good news! The textures and colors will look great here. Glad FreeYABB will accomodate the custom theme.
