These boards are starting to annoy me!!

Post by Treebore »

I don't know about anyone else but I am getting really tired of clicking on a new forum or thread and getting "this page cannot be displayed" messages!
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Hmm, weird. I haven't received any messages like this. What browser are you using? Do you have broadband connectivity?

I haven't received that message, either; everything seems to be working fine for me (Mac OS X, Camino 1.0 -- which is Gecko/Mozilla based).

I'll get that message if I'm following a link from my gmail account on topics that I'm watching. I'm using the latest version of Firefox, btw.

Sometimes websites just do not load properly. I've had google give me a 404 error, but everything else was working. I clicked refresh and wham! Google showed back up.

Sometimes it helps to dump your cache, too.

Last thing I did last night was dump the cache files. This was the first site I visited today.

Treebore,

Sounds like you may have spyware issues if you're having that problem with IE. Either that or your security settings may be too high or you may be infected with a browser highjacker.

Try spybot and ad-aware (if you didn't know that already). I'd also run disk clean up since the problem could also be hiding in a temporary windows file as well as the IE cache.

If you have any friends who are good with computers, you might wanna ask one to pop by and see if they can isolate the problem.

Wish I could help more, but it's hard to say what the issue is from a distance. Too many potential causes.

I have, and ran last night, everything you have suggested, but I ended up canceling the disk clean up during the file compressing phase. I'll run it tonight.

Or it could just be from net congestion, since everyone's flocking to these boards now!!!

Ok, shutting up.

Using IE is like going into a house of ill repute without a profilactic.

If you have router and high speed modem (DSL, Cable, Etc.), unplug both of them. Wait 15 seconds at least and then plug in modem, then router. Might do the trick.

My first degree was in web development. Guess that makes me a web dude.
Need some help with something, Steve?

It's happening with all my links too.

Here's an example of one of the links sent to me...
http://www.freeyabb.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=1014#1014

The problem is we're not seeing the "&mforum=trolllordgames" before the number sign. If you insert it then you go the right place.

Sounds like an error in the php script generating the email. Fix it and you should be good to go.

Wow, this is a feature of forums that I would be afraid to use. I already get enough e-mail without being overwhelmed with more from forum triggers. I don't even use this in my PBP games.
