2 people separated by the same language

I heard that saying a while ago when watching something about WWII and the US working with England. How everyone spoke English, but there were so many little miscommunications that the difference between American English and English English caused. I always liked that saying and in the military I sa...

Re: Wish list

It's cool to be that recent discoveries have turned the commonly-accepted view of civilization and human origins on its head. When I was in school, the Australopithicus > Homo Habilis > Homo Erectus > Neanderthal > Homo Sapiens path was set in stone and taught as indisputable fact. Now most of that...

Re: Wish list

Being an archeology geek, I've kept up on the latest sites in Turkey, like Gobekli Tepe, about 10,000 BC! Lots of Bronze-ish Age stuff to bring into that. Sumer wasn't the beginning :) Atlantis could figure into all that too. And whoever built the Sphinx. The water damage would have been at least 7...

Re: Magic item saves vs Black Dragon breath

In today's game, my son's Ranger got hit by a gout of Black dragon acid and failed his save. He survived, but I'm a little unsure on the equipment saves for magic stuff. Obviously the mundane stuff is ruined. The CKG shows a CC21 for saves vs dragon breath for Steel, but what if it's a magic sword ...

I just recently watched Dragonslayer and I actually really liked it. It had a low fantasy movie feel and you get the sense of a passing age of magic leaving the world and five ways how to get rid of man moobs being pushed out my Christianity. The whole thing about a King using a lottery to appease ...

Nice ! Consider the 'Wooden Horse' stolen and added to my HRs ! I don't have my notes at hand, but I know I did some conversions on old spells. I remember one was stick to snakes (think I lowered the level form 4th(ish) or whatever it was down to something like 2nd) there were a few others too. I'll...

Most of the monsters can be played, as is, by converting their AC (subtract from 20). Keep in mind a few monsters got a major boost in power curtesy of 3.X D&D, mainly dragons and the aforementioned demons and devils. They are much more dangerous in C&C than their counterparts in Basic/Expe...

I love that one. Favorite weapon for a cleric and back up for paladins. I've never paid attention to exp for it so didn't notice the difference. You know me, I've never been big on giving exp for finding a weapon etc, so it doesn't effect my game that much between 1e v C&C. I assume the differen...

That's why having a WIGHT OUT is so deadly... Troll edits. & you have to be careful when it is a wight out on the town. The gore can paint the town red ! Sorry I couldn't resist ... I'd add holy water/oil as items that fall into the +1 area. ... I assume pummeling as well, but then again...

Re: Running Classic & OSR campaigns

I really think you're overthinking it. Just treat the monsters as they would be in C&C and give them a hit bonus based on their hit dice. For NPCs, treat them as the C&C equivalent. If you need to add a couple spells to make them equivalent that's fine. I've literally never done any prelimi...

Dragons, Demons, and Devils were all too weak in AD&D. Glass cannons mostly. +1 to that! Also rgr on not to over worrying about Balance and using C&C monsters as required. For my girls' face to face game I modified 'Keep on the boarderland' to make it a C&C / Tolkien game, and then conv...

Being a fan of 'low magic' settings, I'll be the voice of decent here on this one ;) Of course if your setting is high magic, yes Rome would have continual light / flame to light the streets, and 100s of other uses for common low level 'useful' spells. However, if magic is less common, or the variou...
