Re: FREE AA Character Class: The Demon Hunter!

Thanks! Glad you enjoy it. It'll probably also be included in a future sourcebook or the next printing of AA. Possibly with the XP table tweaked a bit; I'll have to re-run the numbers and see. In any case, it should be considered an official addition. :ugeek:

Re: AA Book fiction- will there be any more?

She's a lot of fun to write. Natalya was my playtest character, so she's always been my favorite, but I think Maddie has replaced her in that regard.

Re: Quick question about AA + CC

Not including compound bows was an oversight. It's actually odd that they ARE in C&C, as they're very modern technology. C&C does not have "compound" bows, it has COMPOSITE bows - which are bows made with laminated wood and other materials. This technology has been around since about 2,000 BCE or a...

Re: AA Book fiction- will there be any more?

Thanks! That's a great compliment. I'm actually a novelist as well as a game designer. Fiction is my first love. Yes, there is more fiction being written. I will have a short story about Natalya (and how she got those swords) in an upcoming anthology from TLG, and I am working on a novel about Maddi...

Re: Accuracy balance in Sci-Fi characters in Fantasy campaig

The character classes do switch seamlessly between the two. To expect a sci-fi character with sci-fi equipment to not have a gross advantage over a primitive character with primitive equipment is something else entirely. That's one of those things that I personally feel isn't a rules issue but is in...

Re: Quick question about AA + CC

Not including compound bows was an oversight. It's actually odd that they ARE in C&C, as they're very modern technology. Penetration does not equate to damage, that's why accuracy doesn't add to damage. If you shoot someone with a gun, or hit them overhand with a two-handed blow from an axe, the axe...

Re: SMGs and Sorcerery: The Day After Ragnarok

You sir, have EXCELLENT taste. I have loved the pure ahistorical weirdness of DAR for years, running it using Savage Worlds. It shouldn't be too hard to adapt it for AA. You can use C&C clerics for Miracle workers, Gadgeteer inventions as Ophi-Tech and plenty of classic monsters you can lift from C...

Re: Star siege

Upon further reflection on all this, I think I tend to agree that basing the save CL on your spellcraft check result might be a bit much. The idea was to allow spellcasters to throw really powerful magics that were really hard to save against, by virtue of a high casting roll. You could easily just ...

Re: Player wants healing bot

Well, the player skipped one play session and I played his bots by the rules I posted. The bots did fine, game was balanced, and the heal bot saved a Paladin twice. The player though has not responded recently and so I think they are dropping out of the game. I'll know next Tuesday. Regardless, hop...

You've very much misread my tone. I mean no disrespect whatsoever, nor did I intend to come off as condescending. You outlined exactly how complicated it was, and I endeavored to break it down and explain it to you. I'm sorry if it came off otherwise. As most of those who have interacted with me her...

Re: Quick question about AA + CC

I couldn't disagree more. Yes, originally the use of gunpowder provided greater punch. By the time the rifled barrel came into play, however, it was all about accuracy. I've been hunting and shooting for TWENTY YEARS, and I'm here to tell you a gun is exponentially more accurate whether it's ten yar...

Re: Star siege

You can be snarky if you want to. I really enjoyed playing AA. I especially loved the range of characters that people could create. But I really struggled with the opposed spell check system. The description didn't match the example. That was confusing. But mostly, having multiple steps meant every...

Re: Quick question about AA + CC

I responded to your thread about accuracy and guns below.

Short answer: Guns are supposed to outclass ancient weapons, just like they do in the real world. That's the point of them. It's a feature, not a bug.

3. The check system as described in AA felt complicated and the description was unclear to me. I am probably not the only one who puzzled over understanding it. THIS caught my attention. How, exactly, did it feel complicated and unclear? I'm not being snarky. I genuinely want to know. This is the f...

Re: Player wants healing bot

I think your player wants to run away with the game and that's why he's complaining. The wizard may have more spells at his command, but the gadgeteer can use his gadgets all day long, over and over again. The rules are wide open for gadgeteers, allowing you to do just about anything with them. What...

Re: Quick question about AA + CC

I just found this old thread (and I haven't even read through it yet). I am currently running a campaign where Sci-Fi (AA characters with Star Fronteirs races) are in the Haunted Highlands Fantasy setting. It's going very well except for a couple players (came from D&D 5th play) who think the rules...

Re: Accuracy balance in Sci-Fi characters in Fantasy campaig

Okay, so how is it that "guns" get an additional bonus for accuracy but ranged weapons in C & C do not get such a bonus. What I'm finding is that the C & C classes (characters) are lagging behind in hits and "kills" because the AA characters have an extra bonus to hit for the Accuracy of the weapon...

Re: Player wants healing bot

Your ideas are great. We incorporated some concepts from Star Frontiers which brought in the SEU units. So maybe I'll have to do something with that. Nanobots is not something I had not thought of. Although, even then I'm still wondering why they don't just buy some healing potions or use the stimd...

Simple: it uses nanotech bots (which it produces using replication technology) for its healing, not elixirs...but runs on batteries that have to be recharged every so often. The batteries are self-charging but take several hours to gear back up once its energy is expended. There's your daily limit o...

Just letting you guys know I'm paying attention... :ugeek: In that case, let me second Rigon's comment. The problems with SS were its layout/organization and lack of support materials. I, too, like the fact that it is not class based. So a well presented set of rules, with good support materials, i...
