Re: Castles & Crusades What's Next

GaryCon games wont go up for signup until late January 2019/February 2019. The call for games hasn't even started yet. August/Sept 2018 maybe? Every GaryCon I get to play with at least a few C&C players from these message boards and others. Other than that, if you host a [OFF GRID] game on the Wedne...

Re: Favorite magic items

Ring of Negative Energy Protection. This very powerful ring prevents the the loss of levels (level drain) when suffering a successful attack from a creature or item that drains levels of experience. I always hated level drain so much, but realize it is a vital part of the D&D/C&C game. This ring, ev...

Re: Playing at the Table

I'm still at level 3, with leanings toward 2. I just ran a game this past weekend at a convention, and I had the battle mat out and dice, markers, etc. None of the players seemed interested in using those devices and wanted theater of the mind. I personally don't see that all that much any more, but...

Re: What gaming stuff are you reading?

Legacy of Raistlin, for the DragonLance SAGA rules during the Age of Mortals time period. There's a lot of interesting details of the DragonLance setting during that specific sliver of time in the setting, but what is even better are the details of the Tower of Wayreth.

Isn't there a section in the CKG that covers this topic? It's been a while, but I seem to remember a gigantic chart with a ton of mundane materials and various related saves.

Re: Interesting House Rules

My house rules are lengthy because of three reasons. One, I play with a certain crowd that needs the rules spelled out in detail. Two, I essentially rewrote the entire hard rules sections of the PHB (and a little of the M&T) to be precise and stave off common arguments. And lastly I format and layou...

Re: Wizards, Fighters, and Balance

Want spell components to matter much more? My suggestion is having some specialized spell components that actually boost the power of the spells. For example, the material components of a fireball could be specially obtained from a rare or dangerous source to make the casting of the spell act as if ...

Re: Wizards, Fighters, and Balance

mmbutter is correct. The extra challenge of the saving throw is equal to the level of the spellcaster. This is the default core mechanic to the C&C game. While in earlier versions of the D&D game (1E, 2E) a fighter's save vs. spells was a defined number -- example every fighter of the same level nee...

Re: Using C&C with Beyond The Wall

Depending on your rolling method for generating attributes, I believe it's assumed in BTW that each character will end up with 72 points of attributes (avg of 12 in each of the 6 attributes). Also, in BTW at levels 4 and 9 there is an automatic bump of 2 points of attributes, although that rule migh...

Re: Using C&C with Beyond The Wall

My group has some familiarity with this. We essentially cut out all of the C&C classes except for Fighter, Rogue, and Wizard to correspond with the life-path system from Beyond the Wall. The base C&C character's are much more powerful than the base BTW characters. Since C&C doesn't have a default sk...

Re: Metamorphosis Alpha for SIEGE?

The short and sweet of MA at the TLG seminar was that TLG is waiting for the authors to finish the writing on the expansions before they move forward with a kickstarter on the project. TLG wasn't too clear on details, but they did mention several times that MA needs to be expanded in several key are...

This was done in 2016. TLG put out pocket editions of the PHB, M&T, screens, FlipBook, Eskadia, Haunted Highlands, Rune Lore, Classic Monsters, Codex Nordica, and Codex Celtarum. C&C did this in the past (2014?) and the results we OK at best. The 2016 versions are real nice, with dark bold type face...

Definitely a great time. Got to play in 4 C&C games, an AD&D playtest of all things (IKR?!), and a AS&SH game. Played a ton of Alien Deckbuilder which is just the best. I had the v3.5 version, and now I have the S&W version. The current S&W version version forms ...

I also do not use it at the table as a reference book. The beauty of the CKG for me comes when I just sit down before or after a game and page to a section and read through it. That's where the ideas start to flow, during downtime and working towards my next session or campaign. Though I do use many...

Not interested in converting classes, just the races (some of which were their own class (RCC). C&C is THE system for me these days. I run Palladium off and on at conventions, but have never converted the setting over to C&C. For some reason I find their setting intrinsically part of the game mechanics even if it doesn't necessarily feel that way. I don't know, I feel Palladium would come off as pretty generic using C&C rules. St...
