Re: Bladerunner 2049

It's been a solid 20-30 years since I saw the original. Do I need to rewatch it in order to enjoy the new movie? The new movie does reference the original Blade Runner in a few significant places. However, not seeing the original will not hamper watching BR2049. The plot points from the original ar...

Re: Mass Combat Rules for C&C?

Someone needs to run a Fields of Battle session at Gary Con sometime soon. Quoted for truth. I played Fields of Battle some years ago at a convention in Ohio. It definitely has more of an RPG feel to it, but I had a lot of fun. I have sort of incorporated the mini rules from the CKG into my C&C ses...

If it is legitimately, and expertly written for C&C (not just a schlocky quick conversion) in one of these instances, consider me very interested.

Re: Dumb Newbie question - find secret/hidden doors

It is just a WIS check as the PHB spells out quite clearly, but I like to use WIS for checks where one might notice a secret door even if they are not looking. I also use INT checks when characters are specifically searching for hidden doors.

The sheer fact that these books are not AT LEAST available on OBS is a crime. Serious fantastic material that for some dumb reason is not allowed to be shared with the world. Bring back Dan Cross to rewrite these books!

I seem to remember a series of 3 adventures written for the Codex Celtarum during the Kickstarter, though that could have been for Codex Germania. Hmm.

Re: Castles & Crusades What's Next

I have a copy of the printed version of the Tome of the Unclean. It's definitely pretty cool looking, but needs more entries in my opinion. Also, it definitely needs to have an expanded treatment to get the hardcover book option going. I definitely like the author's take on many of these iconic badd...

Re: C&C White Box at GenCon

I have used the C&C White Box on many occasions, and even run an entire 3 year campaign from it. Though, I did have to expand the game a little bit which means that even though I was using the white box, I was more or less using some rules from core C&C. But never the less, I have used it. It's time...

Re: low fantasy setting

Dark Albion is definitely a low-ish fantasy setting I'd love to run. I particularly like the low-fantasy parts of Birthright ~ sure, there can be many higher-magic type elements, but I really find the low-magic aspects well grounded in a nice vanilla campaign setting. I personally don't worry about ...

Re: What gaming stuff are you reading?

Beyond the Wall & Other Adventures RPG Beyond the Wall & Other Adventures: Further Afield Beyond the Wall & Other Adventures: Heroes Young and Old BTW is an OSR style D&D game that puts the emphasis on light mechanics, and "zero-prep" GMing. While there is certainly a number of things the GM is resp...

Re: Hybrid Classes

Mark, can't you just have Fighter/Mage in a dual-classing role? For example, by following the rules in the newer PHBs, just combine the classes together, double the XP requirement per level (essentially) and voila! Or, do you not like the dual classing rules either? If that's the case, perhaps you'l...

Anybody well-versed in classic D&D style roleplaying with understand this. However, my first impression when reading this is "is this an OSR version of a 'template?'" Even after reading it several times, it still feels like this is a template to overlay another existing set of monster statistics. I'...

Re: Origins in Columbus in June?

Gods, that sucks when a GM at a convention can't go. Sorry to hear, especially in the wake of only 1 C&C game this year. Fear not, I think Origins is once again picking up on the spillover of those disenchanted with the GenCon behemoth. Origins is looking up!

I could write the Mentzer Expert Set. It wouldn't be word-for-word, but it would be within a few pages of length of the original book! Buuuuuut, my expansionist OCD would kick in and I'd add more stuff because there is no way I couldn't.
