Re: Adventurers Back Pack

I backed the kickstarter mainly for the backpacks. My players are fairly new to rpg's in general, so equipping characters becomes more analysis-paralysis than anything else. Just having pre-generated backpacks is a huge time saver. So for that reason, I'm happy. Overall, I think the new classes are ...

Re: Amazing Adventures movies or books?

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Very pulpy, and the setting (and even the characters) fit in with the AA books. I watched it on Netflix a few months ago. Don't know if you can still find the '75 film version of Doc Savage (I actually own it). It's pretty campy, but Ron Ely played Doc pretty s...

Re: Worst fantasy movie ...

I've seen a few bad low budget fantasy movies on Mystery Science Theater, but I can't remember their names. Nevertheless, they were all low budget movies with no name actors and directors, so expectations were low anyway. Based on a bad per $ budget, the Hobbit Trilogy is by far the worse in my book...

Re: When something is declared "dead"...

Because of that the character with 50 hp isn't taking physical damage as he is going down from 50 to 40 to 30 etc etc etc. He is getting tired less focused less lucky and those near misses are getting closer and closer to not being a near miss. This was my understanding of HP as well, even going ba...

Re: Missile Weapons and ROF

Now I found it. As Aergraith said, there's a section on Rate of Fire in the Castle Keeper's Guide (pg. 310). Heavy crossbow is every other round. There are rules for increasing rate of fire for regular bows, up to 4 arrows/round, but there are associated penalties; -2 for 2 arrows/round, -4 for 3 ar...

New member here. I joined almost specifically for this question. I have an order of books coming to me from an ebay auction. Re: Missile Weapons and ROF

I could have sworn somewhere in the PHB it says that a heavy crossbow can only be fired every other round.

Regarding the OP, keep in mind that in 1E, a combat round is 1 minute, while in C&C a combat round is 10 seconds, which explains the difference in rof.

Wasn't aware of this version of the Nero Wolfe series, although I do remember watching the William Conrad/Lee Horsley version back in the late '70's early 80's. I've always been a Timothy Hutton fan, so I've just updated my youtube subscription. Another good source for inspiration is "Sky Capta...

Somewhere between 3 & 4. I find mapping the area helps me better describe what's going on (plus I just really get into maps). I use the battle map that came with the Pathfinder beginner's box and some dry erase markers (the really day glow ones). We really don't have a bunch of mini's, and defin...

Re: Adventurer's Backpacks - EV ratings

Damon, I had the same thoughts. To me there are two possibilities. The first is that the rules for EV and containers have changed. The second is that they haven't changed, but just weren't explained clearly enough in the PHB (I can't remember if an example is given in the PHB). I do know that EV rul...

Do you have the Expanded Classes supplement? I need to check, but I'm pretty sure dual-classing rules are in there. If you like class-and-a-half, then I really recommend getting that. They've really expanded on that concept.

Arcanist - Generic Character Class

I hope someone can help me. In one of the source books (AA, AA Companion, Book of Powers), it was mentioned that the Arcanist can be used as a template for a generic character class. It mentioned that instead of gaining spells, the character would gain an ability. I'm assuming this means gain one ab...

In one of his Facebook posts around Christmas, Jim Ward mentioned that he's working on a "huge Metamorphosis Alpha mapping project" for Troll Lord Games based on his notes from 40 years ago. This doesn't sound exactly like a Siege Engine version of MA, but I could be wrong.

The psionic system in AA is one of the best ones I've seen. I also agree that it's not just a system for a pulp game. I've been trying (very, very slowly) to create a post-apocalyptic game with AA.

I'm currently running a C&C campaign for my wife and daughter. My wife, who is not a gamer, actually requests that we play whenever we have the chance. The system is so easy to use to keep them engaged with the game - I never have to take 5 minutes to look up a rule or roll up stats for a monster.

I'm converting an old PF module for my group, and one of the encounters involve a bat swarm. I looked in M&T and Classic Monsters, and haven't seen anything comparable in C&C. Is there a C&C mechanic for handling swarming creatures that I missed? How has anyone else dealt with this? Than...

All the time it took to just to stat out some goblins is what drove me from PF to C&C. You really don't need ability scores to make a monster interesting. Add an extra attack bonus, mix in a class ability or two, maybe adjust AC or HP is all it takes.

Re: Did I do wrong to weaken the encounter?

The big fight at the end is always tricky... you could have had the big guy, say "you are not worth my time" and depart leaving his minions to be the big fight.. saving the big guy for another day.. they will burn with outrage, but know the big guy was right, they barely beat the minions....
