Re: Addicted to Megadungeons
Well I think I can now say that I'm addicted to megadungeons. Just before Christmas I bought Barrowmaze Complete and Forbidden Caverns of Archaia . Shortly after I purchased Rappan Athuk. I bought them all in hardcover. I've read the first two, but not the third yet, as I'm currently reading the OS...

Re: Has Anyone Played These Adventures?
Most of the Advanced Adventures line have struck me as so-so, with a handful of good modules and a larger number of stinkers. I don't think the compilations are great values. I'd just get the individual modules that strike your fancy. That being said, I ran an 8 month long C&C Barrowmaze game us...

Re: Savage Rifts
I'm in. I've wanted to run Rifts again for a long time, but too many players in my group have vetoed it due to Palladium's house system being too heavy. Over the years, I've adapted more and more science-fantasy into my C&C games, but I'm still yearning to play the real thing. While I really res...

Re: Which C&C class needs work?
I wish the C&C Monk was more like the S&W Monk, and I wish C&C's Knights didn't focus on horses. Horses don't exist in some of my favorite settings.
Both of those things are house ruled easily enough, though.

Re: Who here enjoys playing fighters?
Certainly my favorite class. In contrast with Treebore's view, I like them in large part because their lack of fiddly bits means that I have more time to engage in the game creatively. That and nobody is better in a straight up fight.

Re: What do you consider are the essential C&C modules?
For a straight dungeon crawl, I really like Dark Journey. I think the magic items need some spicing up, wandering monster tables need to be added, and the author's recommendation to avoiding restocking is wrong. In fact, I think those are weak spots in many of TLG's modules. Nevertheless, the dungeo...

FWIW, I use the dungeon level as a baseline for the CL. Seems to work pretty well.

Re: Advantages?
After the CKG was released, my gaming group used them in a couple of campaigns. I wasn't a fan since they seemed to narrow the variety of actions the players took. Previously, I had adjudicated actions similarly to Treebore and, as a result, players tended to tried more things and be more imaginativ...

Probably Elf. I like exploring what it is to be effectively immortal. I also like that they're good with swords.

Re: S&W Monstrosities for C&C
How about their campaign books like Sword of Air? Ordered it and am hoping to use it with C&C. The only issue that I've seen with using S&W materials with C&C is that as characters progress in the two systems, the way that saving throws work diverges quite a bit. Higher level adventures...

Re: S&W Monstrosities for C&C
Has anyone used the Monstrosities book for Swords & Wizardry in their C&C game? It is a great book, but I much prefer C&C as a system. It looks as though it would be easy to concert...even on the fly. Any have any experience with this? You're right... it is a great book. I have first ha...

There is now a C&C pledge level for the Revised Book of Familiars. $30 for a .pdf? For something that's primary draw (as I see it, anyhow) is that it fixes broken components in something we've already paid for? :? Why not provides errata to fix the book for existing customers at no charge first...

I think this very issue is why I increasing tweak existing monsters to have different appearances and/or modified powers, or use new monsters altogether.
I don't like discouraging players from using every scrap of knowledge they have to help them.

I didn't find the Haunted Highlands to be any darker or grittier than the rest of the setting I used, which was Aihrde. I find your perspective interesting. I haven't used HH extensively, but the gods presented therein and things like sacrificial magic definitely gave me the impression of it as a d...

Re: Should clerics have a d10 hit die?
I think that would simply escalate things. Fighters would then want a d12, and Barbarians would want to roll Zocchi dice for hit points! To me, Clerics in C&C are a pretty powerful class as is. They have both offensive and defensive magic, great AC options, good weapon options, and they can turn...

Re: Town of Kalas Suggestions
I was thinking it would be pretty easy to connect it to the Haunted Highlands module series. My take on the Haunted Highlands is that it is a somewhat darker setting than what Kalas presents. Having said that, and having used Kalas fairly extensively, I think a grim and grittier take on Kalas would...

Re: Town of Kalas Suggestions
I ran a pretty successful campaign based around Kalas. As long as a person is OK with high levels of magic, Kalas is a great setting for starting out a game. I used Dark Journey for an initial adventure, placing it to the north of Kalas. While that module really needs wandering monsters, restocking,...
